Navilatirtha dam likely to become full this year

The Navilatirtha Dam , also called as Renuka Sagar, and built across Malaprabha at Navilteertha near Saudatti, is filling up and can reach full reservoir level (FRL) this year.This dam, constructed between two natural rocks in the year 1973, has a storage capacity of 37.7 TMC feet. This will help the government reduce costs while the dam will also be cleaned,” he added.An official at Navilatirtha dam said he was hopeful about the reservoir reaching FRL level as there has been good rain fall in the Malaprabha basin in Khanapur and Bailhongal taluks. Outflow from the dam has been maintained at 1,138 cusecs.The possibility of the dam getting full has brought smiles on the faces of farmers of Hubballi-Dharwad, Saudatti, Rhon and Ramadurg.
