Cement loaded truck washed away

Belagavi: A cement loaded truck was washed away in a stream following heavy rainfall at Vaderatti village of Gokak taluk in Belagavi district on Tuesday.According to sources, the truck got stuck on a temporary mud road made to complete the ongoing bridge work. When water levels in the stream increased and the flow became heavy, the along with the temporary road were washed away. It has about 20.85 tmc feet of water while its total capacity is 37tmc feet. Naviluteerth Dam across the Malaprabha River requires an additional 16 tmc feet of water to become full. However, no casualty has been reported.In Chikkodi taluk, two bridges cum barrages have gone under water following heavy rainfall in the Konkan region of Maharashtra and the catchment areas of river Krishna.The Karadaga-Bhoj bridge across river Vedganga and Kallol-Yadur bridge on river Krishna, both in Chikkodi taluk have submerged.Thanks to the good rainfall, Hidkal Dam and Rakaskop Reservoir, both major sources of drinking water to Belagavi, are full and water is being released from them..
