Bus sold by Mangaluru owner as it was unfit to ply in DK

MANGALURU/MANDYA: The ill-fated bus that plunged into Visvesvaraya Canal on Saturday was deemed ‘unfit’ to ply on the roads of Dakshina Kannada district. The bus, which was registered on June 1, 2001, was sold by the transport company in Mangaluru after it completed 15 years. The vehicle was sold to Srinivas with valid fitness certificate from Mangaluru RTO on April 1, 2015. Srinivas is the ninth owner of this bus,” said a senior RTO official.The bus was plying between Hampankatta and Sultan Bathery in Wayanad before it completed 15 years. However, it was unfit to ply in Dakshina Kannada.The official said the restriction is due to the nature of roads in the region which have steep curves and slopes.In Dakshina Kannada, on an average, a passenger bus travels about 200km a day.Officials in Mandya said the bus will be subjected to inspection to ascertain its condition..
