MG Park will get Smart touch soon

Hubballi: MG Park in the city will soon be developed under the Smart City Project at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore.A Mangaluru-based company has been awarded the contract and work is expected to begin in a week.There were several complaints about the deteriorating condition of the park. Morning and evening walkers and elected representatives too had demanded authorities to protect greenery and upgrade the Indira Gandhi Glass House, the skating rink and other amenities inside the park.Despite several demands and protests, the authorities only took up minor repairs.Eventually the authorities decided to develop MG Park under the Smart City Project. A project report on this matter was prepared and it has been approved by the technical committee. With all formalities having been completed, work is expected to begin in another week.S H Naregal, special officer for Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited, told TOI that the tender process has been completed for developing MG Park.“Except the toy train, Indira Glass House and fountain, all other aspects of the park will be developed at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore. Later tender for other works will be floated,” he said.“We have asked the construction company to start renovation and restructuring work at MG Park before January 20,” he added.“Upgrading the skating rink, repair and design of pathway, construction of an open gym, a children's play area, a sensory garden, signages, litter bins, efficient lighting, sufficient parking space with good circulation, defined main entry and sign board in between transitions, a water pond, usage of an efficient irrigation system and xeriscaping plants are some of the salient features of the project,” said Naregal.The park will be redesigned in such a way that it is accessible to differently abled persons too..
