Belagavi: Members of All India Democratic Students Organisation ( AIDSO ) protested in the city condemning the introduction of non-resident Indian quota (NRI) and the fees hike in the government medical colleges, here on Friday.The protesters took out a rally from Rani Channamma Circle to the deputy commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum to the DC.They said the medical education minister’s plan to introduce 10% quota for NRIs in government medical colleges was unconstitutional. “The government intends to increase the fee for undergraduate medical courses from Rs 17,000 to Rs 50,000 per year and from Rs 40,000 to Rs 3.5 lakh for post graduate courses, which will be a burden on poor students,” the protesters said and urged the state government to withdraw the proposal.Raju Ganagi, Nikhil Hosamani, Basayya Hireamath, Kiran Harijan, Mahantesh Billur and medical students were present at the protest..
