Belagavi: Belagavi Zilla Kannada Sanghatanegala Kriya Samiti has opposed the government’s proposal of bifurcating Visvesvaraya Technological University ( VTU ) headquartered in Belagavi.Samiti president Ashok Chandaragi demanded that the proposal be dropped immediately. “VTU in Belagavi is a result of the fight of Kannada organizations in the 80s. If the same yardstick is applied to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Ramnagara, then a similar health varsity should be established in North Karnataka too,” he said. In 1997-98 then CM JH Patel established the university to focus on North Karnataka region,” he said.Chandaragi said no university in the state has been bifurcated so far.
