Sankranti celebrations in Hubballi-Dharwad hit by water shortage

"I have been visiting Hampi every Makara Sankranti since several years, but I never met this poor condition of water. Since catchment areas have received very little rainfall this year, the water in Tungabhadra river receded in January itself. HUBBALLI: People in Hubballi-Dharwad were deprived of the holy dip on " Makara Sankramana " as water level at the Neerasagar reservoir , the main source of drinking water to the twin cities, reducing drastically. I am very disappointed due to the lack of water for holy dip this year," said Venkatesh Naidu from Adhoni, Andhra Pradesh.Mohan Chikkabhat Joshi, a priest, informed that there were fewer devotees on Makara Sankranti this year.
