Summary:

GHMC assistant medical officer Mallikarjun said workers of the civic body’s sanitation wing will remove the garbage piled up across the city soon. HYDERABAD: As the city mourned the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and government offices remained shut, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) sanitation workers too stayed away from work, leading to a pileup of garbage in many areas.Several areas in the city were a picture of filth with vegetable waste and garbage strewn all over the place, especially near vegetable markets and by-lanes of localities. Residents and commuters said they saw garbage piled up in areas like Khairatabad, Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazar, Bhumanna Lane Barkatpura ) and Czech Colony (fifth lane, Sanath Nagar), among others. While major markets such as Mehdipatnam and Gudimalkapur have their own marketing committees, which are responsible for maintaining the weekly markets with the help of their staffers, GHMC is supposed to maintain the stretch where weekly markets are held in addition to the city..
