Osmania University students rally for ‘Pranay Act’

HYDERABAD:Expressing solidarity with Amruthavarshini who lost her husband Perumalla Pranay in a case of honour killing in Mirayalaguda, over 500 students of Osmania University took out a rally from Arts College to NCC gate, demanding a new Pranay Act on the lines of Nirbhaya Act. They also questioned the TRS government’s silence on caste-related killings Raising slogans in support of a fast-track court trial to convict the offenders, the students said Pranay Act should be promulgated so as to protect couples caught in the inter-caste marriage web. Some protesting students were detained by the OU police and later released in the evening. They also demanded a full-fledged probe by a sitting judge of the Hyderabad High Court into the killing of Pranay on September 14.The students also demanded that the TRS government own up on the spate of caste-related killings in the state, citing Wednesday’s dastardly attack on another couple – Madhavi and Sandeep – by the girl’s father in Erragadda..
