‘Kid’ peddlers keep railway cops on toes

HYDERABAD: Railway police are struggling to crackdown on traffickers who use railway stations as transit points to bring drugs into the city. The police have confiscated more than 1,551 kg ganja and slapped over 58 cases under NDPS Act.In 2017, railway police recovered 4422.63 kg ganja from 146 persons and booked 81 cases. Since January, more than 30 drug peddlers have been arrested. “Many of these poor kids are pushed into peddling by families,” said an RPF cop.A few months ago, a 24-yearold youth from Bihar, Kannaiah Sahani, was held at Secunderabad with dry ganja worth ?3.7 lakh. Konark Express, Lokmanya Tilak Express, Andhra Pradesh Express, Navajeevan Express and East Coast Express are among the major trains used by traffickers to bring in dry ganja, marijuana, heroin and yaba from Mumbai, Odisha, Solapur, Pune, West Bengal and other places.The railway cops nabbed over 100 children, mostly at Secunderabad Station, and many women for drug peddling..
