Gang digs tunnel to steal diesel from pipeline

HYDERABAD: Rachakonda police arrested four members of an inter-state gang on Thursday for pilfering diesel from a fuel pipeline of an oil PSU at Rampally.The culprits had taken a parcel of land abutting the pipeline on lease, dug up a tunnel, breached the pipeline and pumped out 1.3 lakh litres of diesel in the past 20 days. Shaik was earlier arrested twice for diesel theft in Mumbai. Police kept a watch on the shed and observed that oil tankers were frequently entering the facility, supposedly a scrap godown. They located the place where the pilferage could be taking place from and lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the arrests. They put up a fence with metal sheets around the plot to prevent outsiders from noticing their activity and built a small shed on the premises.“The accused punctured the fuel pipeline and connected it with a rubber pipe..
