Rythu Bandhu: 9L farmers yet to receive funding

HYDERABAD: The popular Rythu Bandhu scheme of the Telangana government is yet to cover about 9 lakh farmers in the state. The agriculture department carried out a fresh exercise and it was found that four lakh additional farmers did not receive the amount despite being eligible for the benefit.In addition to these four lakh, 2.2 lakh farmers were left out during the assembly election in December 2018. For the implementation of first cycle for Kharif and Rabi season, Rs 4,000 per acre was paid to farmers. Though they were eligible, but the government could not provide funds as model code of conduct (MCC ) was in place.When the state government started the exercise of collecting bank account details and Aadhaar number, about 3.1 lakh farmers could not provide their bank account details. A total of 53 lakh farmers were identified in the state and the finance department received the outstanding bill of Rs 940 crore a few days back.The fresh estimates made for the year 2018-19 shows that four lakh farmers are yet to get the funding due to various reasons.Earlier it was reported that a total of five lakh farmers were left out of the ambit of Rythu Bandhu scheme and the government required Rs 300 crore for payment..
