Women power

Hyderabad | Tuesday | 4th June, 2019

Summary:

Interestingly, the number of women MPs in the BJP has gone up from 30 to 41 (from 10 per cent to 13 per cent) while the Indian National Congress (INC) has seen an increase from 4 to 6 women MPs (from 9 per cent to 11 per cent). That seemed evident in this year’s general elections where 715 women contested, and Uttar Pradesh, which holds the maximum number of seats in the Lower House — 80 — saw 11 women getting elected. BJP politico Manoj Tiwari agrees and says, “It is heartening to see the increased participation of women in Parliament. “It’s encouraging that there are more women MPs in the new government of India. The voice and concerns of women will surely be heard in Parliament with the increasing strength of woman MPs..
