Hyderabad: 3-year-old boy given world's costliest injection worth Rs 16 crore, crowd-funded by 65K donors

The hard work of the parents of three-year-old Ayaansh, who lives in Hyderabad, has paid off.

Ayaansh was given the US-manufactured drug Zolgensma on June 9, it is the world`s costliest injection.

His parents raised Rs 16-crore through a crowd-funding campaign started in February, earlier this year.

Yogesh Gupta and Rupal Gupta`s son Ayaansh was administered this medicine on June 9 at Rainbow Children`s Hospital, Secunderabad under the supervision of Consultant Pediatric Neurologist Dr Ramesh Konnaki.

Many big actors like Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma came forward to help Ayaansh, who is suffering from a rare disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Ayaansh needed an injection, which costs Rs 16 crore.

It affects one in 8,000 children.

When the child was one year old, he was diagnosed with a disease called `Spinal muscular atrophy.

Ayaansh`s father Yogesh Gupta works in a private company here.

He said, `It is an extremely rare disease that causes weakness in the muscles.
