Shabbir Ali said Metro Rail was the baby of the Congress party which designed, laid foundation, procured all financial linking and finally central approvals while the TRS and MIM delayed the project seeking change in the route in front of Assembly, Sultan Bazar and also old city. The alternative route suggested by MIM was not feasible and resulted in L&T not taking up continuation due to escalation of cost. In fact, the Congress, with its sole aim of developing old city had linked Falaknuma, but the later rulers changed the route and abandoned Falaknuma region. He alleged that the MIM does not want development of old city as it will lose its monopoly if Muslim youth are educated and Muslim women are empowered..
