Six charged in Manipur fake encounter cases

IMPHAL: An Imphal court on Friday framed charges against six Manipur police personnel, including an inspector and a sub inspector, in connection with two alleged fake encounter cases. They have been charged under sections 302, 301 and 34 of the IPC.The four cops are accused in the killing of one Ranbir Singh on December 20, 2011 in Imphal West. A trial will be initiated soon.About 20 days ago, the Special Investigation Team of the CBI submitted charge sheets of the six to the sessions court, Imphal West. This case relates to the death of one L Lincoln of the Kakwa area in Imphal on June 28, 2011, said Rakesh, who is also the director of the Manipur unit of Human Rights Law Network.In the second charge, sub-inspector Ksh Uttam, head constables Kh Sushil Kumar and L Dinachandra and rifleman Y Santosh have been named. The court had then reserved its verdict.Earlier, the CBI had submitted the charge sheets against the six cops before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West after investigating the two alleged fake encounter cases.The CJM, having completed formalities of two cases, then committed the cases to the session judge, human rights advocate Rakesh Meihoubam, who assisted the CBI in favour of the victims, told TOI.In the first case, the sessions court framed charge against two personnel- inspector S Ibotombi and rifleman Ajay Prakash under section 120-B/302/201 IPC..
