Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has announced an award of Rs 10 lakh for Peh village in Ukhrul district for destroying a massive poppy cultivation there.
In his Facebook post, the chief minister said, “In a delightful sign of public participation in governance, I’m happy to learn that the Peh (Paoyi) village authority situated in the northern fringe of Ukhrul district voluntarily joined the Govt’s ‘War on Drugs’ and has destroyed the poppy cultivation within its jurisdiction.”

“In recognition and appreciation of their remarkable endeavour, a sum of ten lakhs rupees will be rewarded to the villagers,” added Biren.
Biren’s announcement came after Peh village authorities sent a video of the destruction of the poppy cultivation with a message to the CM’s WhatsApp that read: “In ardent support of your (CM) campaign ‘War on drugs’, my village has solemnly pledged to make our village ‘a poppy free village’.

We’ll continue to support your campaign against drug menace in the state.”

Biren formally announced the reward for Peh (Paoyi) village at a media conference at his office complex here on Saturday.
Stating that Peh village would be promoted as a role model for other villages as part of the government’s ‘War on Drugs’ campaign, Biren urged other villages across the state to follow Peh village’s path in this regard.
