The Assam Rifles said on Friday that it had seized smuggled goods worth more than nine crore rupees in several joint operations in Mizoram and Manipur.
In a joint operation with the Customs Preventive Force, Assam Rifles seized 39 boxes of cigarettes of foreign origin worth Rs 51.94 lakh from the Lawngtlai district of Mizoram.
In another operation, Assam Rifles seized banned items including betel nut, opium and timber worth Rs 9.24 crore in the Tengnupal district of Manipur.
"On May 28, Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles recovered 39 boxes of cigarettes of foreign origin valued at Rs 51.94 lakh in a joint operation with the Customs Preventive Force," tweeted the official account of Assam Rifles.
