Former Asian Games gold medalist boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh passed away at the age of 42; he won the gold medal for India in the Asian Games in the year 1998.

Dinko Singh was ill for the past few years and was undergoing treatment for liver cancer.

Last year, he had tested positive for Covid-19, adding another one to the health challenges he was already battling.

But the 41-year-old fought through and recovered.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed deep grief on his death.

Paying tribute to Dingko Singh, PM Modi tweeted and wrote, Shri Dingko Singh was a sporting superstar, an outstanding boxer who earned several laurels and also contributed to furthering the popularity of boxing.

Saddened by his passing away.
