Assam Regiment jawan's corpse found near Loktak Lake

IMPHAL: An Assam Regiment soldier was found gunned down in the Nachou area near the banks of the Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district Moirangthem Herachandra Singh (37), from Moirang Khunou in Bishnupur, was a havildar in 4 Assam Regiment. Police fished out the body and have kept it in the mortuary of a government hospital for autopsy. His bullet-riddled body was found floating on a canal between the Nashou and Kwasephai areas on Monday morning.Police rushed to the spot with forensic experts, retrieved the body and deposited it at the mortuary of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here for autopsy. Police have begun a probe into the incident.Sources said Herachandra had undergone a medical checkup at a hospital here on Sunday morning.The 4 Assam Regiment is currently stationed at Moltuk in the newly set up Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar and the unit replaced 16 Dogra Regiment in 2015.In June of the same year, 18 Dogra Regiment soldiers were killed in a deadly ambush by rebels at Paraolon village.No group has claimed responsibility for Bishnupur killing till the time of filing this report.In another incident, an unidentified male body was found in a river in the Khabam area in Imphal East on Monday afternoon..
