CM Biren invites Manipur rebel groups for talks to end cycle of violence

"In the last four days, rebels fighting to restore Manipur's independence have attacked Assam Rifles forces twice at different places in Chandel, killing three jawans. In a fierce gun fight between heavily armed insurgents and 4 Battalion Assam Rifles near Sajik Tampak in the same district on Wednesday, one jawan and an insurgent were killed and another AR personnel was injured. An Assam Rifles bomb disposal team retrieved the bomb and safely detonated it at a nearby area, they added.The state government has already set up a seven-member committee headed by a top police officer to study the spate of subversive activities in the border town of Moreh and surrounding areas in the newly created district of Tengnoupal. IMPHAL: In view of the rise in subversive activities by rebels in Chandel district and other parts of the state, chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday said his government plans to hold more dialogues with underground groups.Visiting the bereaved families of the three policemen who died in a road mishap in Tamenglong district on Wednesday night, Biren said, "Violence will not bring any solution and it hampers bringing peace and prosperity to the state.
