In order to improve the dry waste segregation system, IMC is now going to install an automatic waste segregation facility at Devguradia Trenching Ground.This high-tech facility, the cost of which is estimated to be around Rs 20crore, would be equipped with an automated sorting system that will be able to separate all kinds of dry waste such as plastic, metal, cloths, paper and other substances more efficiently than manual sorting.The city generate around 450tonne dry waste per day, and despite taking help of ragpickers for waste segregation, it was taking too much time for civic body to segregate it for further processing, recycling or disposal.Civic body officials said that this automatic waste segregation machine will be equipped with various devices such as density sensors, gravity separator, conveyor belt etc. Officials said that this facility will be installed on viability gap funding (VGF) model in which IMC will bear 30% of the total installation cost and rest of the amount will be borne by machine supplier.The supplier will operate this facility for 20 years under operation and maintenance contract and then it will be transferred to IMC..
