IMC ropes in 200 more sanitation workers for cleaning after Diwali

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation will deploy an additional team of 200 sanitation workers for garbage collection and sweeping work after Diwali celebration in the city“An additional team will be deployed on the night of Diwali to carry out cleaning and sweeping in market areas and on major roads,” said IMC waste management consultant Asad Warsi.Civic body authorities have directed all its 7000 sanitation workers to report for work during Diwali. Additional garbage collection vehicles will also be deployed for the work.Warsi said that workers will remain on duty since the waste will be more scattered due to bursting of firecrackers. “Our plan is to clean up all major roads and market areas on the Diwali night. Our aim is to ensure that no garbage is seen on the roads post Diwali,” said IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh.“Instructions have been issued for deployment of additional machinery, including dumpers and earth movers, to collect garbage from the city,” he added. The cleaning will begin after 10pm and will continue till completion of the work,” said Warsi adding that residential areas will be cleaned up early morning.Civic body officials said this special drive is to intensify cleaning work so that people see a visible change when they come out of their homes next morning..
