Police have found that on June 10, two days before Maharaj committed suicide, the trio started threatening to frame in a rape case. ASP Choubey said the trio was seen discussing and planning something after which the angle of investigation veered towards them. “During investigation, Aayushi revealed that Vinayak used to give Maharaj his medicines and was caught replacing his pills with far stronger one,” Choubey said.The trio was arrested by Tejaji Nagar police and produced in judicial magistrate first class Manish Bhatt’s court from where they were sent to jail custody. Till then, police were looking family feud as a possible motive for the suicide.Another breakthrough clue was the discovery that Bhaiyyu Maharaj had spent more than Rs 30 lakh in a marriage in Palak’s family.Police later found that Vinayak used to give medicines to Maharaj and was giving him much higher doses to push him into depression. “Vinayak started threatening Maharaj that Palak will file a false rape case against him and he will lose all his money and fame,” said the ASP.The relentless pressure took its toll and the guru shot himself dead on the morning of June 12.Police say that after Maharaj’s death, Vinayak took around Rs 15 crore from the guru’s house to Maharashtra but the money is yet to be recovered.One of the key pieces of evidence that helped police crack the case was CCTV footage of Maharaj’s marriage to Ayushi in which the three accused are seen together..
