MP: PIL filed against opening of new petrol pumps

MP has 3711 petrol pumps, while the government has planned to increase the number to 7397- around twice the existing number of petrol pumps.The PIL was listed on Monday before the division bench of Justice SC Sharma and Justice Virendra Singh. INDORE: A PIL has been filed before Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh high court challenging advertisement by various petroleum companies for opening new retail outlets across Madhya Pradesh.The PIL filed by Manthan Parmarthik Sansthan of Ujjain through advocate Lokesh Bhatnagar has raised an environmental concern through it. The petition states that on one hand the country had been taking steps to reduce fuel usage, on the other hand petroleum companies had been opening thousands of new outlets.The petitioner has submitted figures of number of existing petrol pumps in the state and the proposed increase in number of petrol retail outlets. The case was listed for hearing on admission on February 6.The petitioner society through its president Bakir Ali Rangwala has sought relief that a committee must be constituted in the state and an assessment to be made about how many petrol pumps are required in the state.The petitioner has also referred to an order by the Rajasthan high court in a similar petition, which the court has granted a stay on allotting new retail outlets in the state..
