Summary:

Indore: To enhance education quality, Madhya Pradesh education department plans to restore board exams for Class 5 and 8 from academic session 2019-20.The board exam was withdrawn long back, to execute no detention policy from Class 1 to 8 under Right to Education (RTE) Act. “There was a provision in RTE Act that no student shall be failed from class one to eight. But, it was noticed that several students used to flunk or get boundary marks in class nine, which wasn’t a good sign. If student doesn’t have the basic knowledge, promoting him would not be beneficial for him,” he added. “Most of the teachers insisted that as there’s no pressure of clearing exams, students have stopped studying in a right manner,” said district education officer Dr S Sharma. While the department had approved the proposal to restore Class 5 and 8 board exams in August 2016 and was expecting to start it from academic session 2017-18, the Centre had not given its nod.“It’s after a span of over seven years that we will be conducting board exams for students of Class 5 and 8..
