Pithampur to get link project water

Indore: The industry department is all set to supply water from Narmada Kshipra Link this week as pilot project in Sector 3 of Pithampur.Testing of the link up to Sector 3 in Pithampur was completed on Saturday and the department is planning to release water this week.In the wake of fast depleting water levels at Karam dam, alternative water supply arrangements are made at Sector 3 of Pithampur and in some parts of special economic zone (SEZ).Madhya Pradesh Industry Development Corporation (MPIDC) regional head Kumar Purushottam said, “There will not be any water shortage in Pithampur because we have ample water to supply through Narmada-Kshipra. Industries use about 5 MLD of recycled water. We will start water supply this week.”The water requirement of industries in Sector 3 is close to 6 MLD and the department in first phase is prepared to supply 10 MLD.Industry experts said water supplied by industry department will have to be treated before using in processing.According to experts, raw water cannot be utilized for processing by industries but in Narmada water, level of total dissolved solids relatively remains low, which is favourable for industries but still treatment will be required.Industry experts said for smooth supply of water proper maintenance of pipe line is necessary to avoid breakdown in the supply.Industries of Pithampur — state’s largest industrial belt — face acute water shortage every summer due to depletion of water levels in Karam dam and Sanjay Jalashay but this year water supply from Narmada-Kshipra link project is seen fulfilling industrial demand.According to Pithampur Audhyogik Sangathan, water requirement at Pithampur is about 20 MLD and AKVN supplies about 14 MLD except summer months, when industries totally bank on tankers..
