Road construction: Notice to Ujjain Collector, Commissioner

INDORE: The high court has issued notices to Ujjain Collector , UMC Commissioner, Chief Municipal Officer and Chief Engineer of Urban Administration department in a PIL alleging that the guidelines have not been followed in construction of roads in Ujjain’s Mahidpur constituency.The petitioner has sought an investigation in the matter by general administration department and also alleged that norms and guidelines of urban administration department may also be violated in several ongoing road construction projects under Mukhya Mantri Shehri Adhosanrachna Vikas Yojana. He has also accused them of using inferior quality material for laying foundation of the roads.The petitioner has mainly sought two reliefs including construction of roads to be examined by technical vigilance committee and action by taken by Lokayukta police against officials who have misused the funds provided for roads. running below the roads, alleged PIL.Petitioner also claimed that roads constructed over nullahs of other such crossings are not in level with the old roads and while ideally height of new road should be maximum seven inches above the existing ones, the agencies have made new roads at a height of up to 24 inches. The division bench of Justice SC Sharma and Justice Virendra Singh issued notices to the respondents and listed the matter after two months.The petitioner has alleged that chief engineer of urban administration and development department had issued guidelines to all commissioners sand chief municipal officers for construction of roads under the government scheme.Before constructing the road, the CMO has not carried out maintenance or repair work of water pipelines, cable lines etc..
