Varying temp puts pets at infection risk

Indore: The number of viral infection cases among dogs is on the rise because of fluctuation in day and night temperatures for past one month.Government veterinary doctor Dr DR Patil said, “In past few weeks, cases of viral infection among dogs have doubled up in the city. This virus spreads from surroundings since it is in the form of micro-droplets in the air and can attack pets easily. Pets should also be not allowed to move around stray dogs as they have stronger immune system and they act as a carrier of virus.” They should not keep their pets at a distance more than 1.5 feet from them. ”The symptoms through which owners can identify parvovirus infection among their pets include diarrhoea, lethargy, fever, severe weight loss and frequent vomiting, he said.Explaining about how dogs become prey of parvovirus, Dr Nanavati said, “It is found that when pets are taken outside for walk, their owners usually leave them free, which makes them vulnerable to infection..
