DAVV’s bicycle service shelved in less than a year

Bicycles had made it much easier to loiter around the campus. However, after that we will be renting the bicycles. Indore: After Takshashila and Nalanda campuses, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) campus has also withdrawn the bicycles introduced under the green campus initiative, as the college administration were reluctant to pay for it.Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) had rolled out bicycles for all the three campuses. A few months into the initiative, bicycles were withdrawn from the Takshashila and Nalanda campuses.The inititative fell through even before the completion of its first year.The supplier of the bicycles, Mahendra Yadav said that “We had been told that, for first six months we will have to provide the services free of cost. But, post the six-month tenure, we were told that we cannot charge as it’s an educational institute.”As there was no profit, they decided to discontinue the service, he said.On the other hand, IET director, Dr Sanjeev Tokekar said, “The varsity had an agreement for a certain span of time, now that the span is over, the bicycles have been removed.”“We have a big campus and walking around becomes a bit tedious..
