High court admits appeals of 3 SIMI convicts

INDORE: The Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh high court has admitted the appeals filed by three of the 11 SIMI men, who were convicted in February this year under charges of sedition and Arms Act, and fixed them for final arguments calling records of the case from the lower court. All the 11 accused are currently lodged at the Central Jail in Bhopal and were transferred from Sabarmati Jail, Ahmedabad. The HC had sought replies from the state government on these two interlocutory applications in May 2017, to which reply was not filed till the last hearing on July 17.The appeals by other convicted SIMI operatives have been listed on different dates in the next three months. The final arguments in these two matters will be made before the division bench headed by Justice SC Sharma in due course.Meanwhile, a reply from the state government is awaited in the petition filed by another SIMI operative Munroz Jaman , who has also applied for bail and for transfer to Karnataka Jail through two separate applications..
