Summary:

JAIPUR: The Congress sprang its biggest surprise in Rajasthan assembly polls on Saturday by fielding Manvendra Singh , son of former external affairs minister Jaswant Singh, against chief minister Vasundhara Raje from her constituency, Jhalrapatan , in Jhalawar district The party released its second list of 32 candidates for the state assembly elections scheduled for December 7. At the ‘Swabhiman Rally’ he organised at Pachpadra in September, the lawmaker claimed that Raje conspired against Jaswant Singh and continued to target his community men all through her five-year term. She defeated Rama Pilot, widow of Congress stalwart Rajesh Pilot, by a margin of over 27,000 votes in 2003. The opposition party has nominated Manvendra from Jhalrapatan hoping to capitalise on the Rajput resentment against the CM for allegedly targeting his family and the community.Raje filed her nomination from Jhalrapatan on Saturday and made her first attack on Manvendra by calling him an “outsider” in the constituency. Farmers, especially the garlic growers, suffered losses and some even committed suicide last year, but the government did not come to their rescue.”.
