JAIPUR: Congress legislator from Nathdwara C P Joshi was unanimously elected speaker of the 15th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.The House passed the motion for his election by a voice vote after his name was proposed by chief minister Ashok Gehlot , deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, BJP’s Rajendra Rathore and BSP MLA Rajendra Singh Gudha which were seconded by opposition leader Gulab Chand Kataria, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Congress chief whip Mahesh Joshi and Hanuman Beniwal, respectively. Joshi was the MP from Bhilwara in the 15th Lok Sahba and had served as Union minister for Road Transport and Highways and Panchayati Raj from 2009 to 2013.Congratulating Joshi on his election, chief minister Ashok Gehlot said the house would benefit from his varied experience in the party and government as a parliamentarian and state legislator. Representatives from all parties spoke in the house congratulating Joshi and reposing their faith in leadership running the house in an impartial manner.In his address to the House, Joshi said the assembly runs on rules and traditions and both the ruling and opposition parties should ensure that they abide by the rules and procedures so that the precious time of the House could be used better for the welfare of the people.The Speaker assured that he would work in an unbiased manner dispensing justice to all parties, upholding the dignity of the office.“It is the responsibility of the elected government to put bureaucracy to work and make it accountable to the assembly,” Joshi said while interacting with the media after the House was adjourned for the day.He also stressed on the need of training for the first-time MLAs for the House to conduct its proceedings effectively.The Speaker said he would strive to ensure that there is no communication gap between the ruling and opposition parties during his tenure..
