Swine flu testing facilities to be expanded to 50 labs

Jaipur: Expanding diagnostic facilities for swine flu in five new medical colleges, which have become operational from 2018-19 academic session, the state government has approved Rs 1 crore for each of the five medical colleges -Pali, Dungarpur, Bharatpur, Bhilwara and Churu for launching swine flu testing facilities.The health department will also introduce swine flu test facilities at 33 district hospitals in 33 districts of the state. Expanding their reach, they have decided to deploy their team targeting lakhs of people travelling every day in the state.Death toll due to swine flu has increased to 75 in January so far. January is witnessing one of the worst outbreaks as 1,911 persons have been found infected with swine flu virus in first 28 days of the month.Concerned over frequent deaths due to swine flu, the NIV had issued advisory last week to the state government to strengthen screening of people for swine flu for early diagnosis and timely treatment of the disease. At present, 12 laboratories existing in seven government-run medical colleges in Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jhalawar, four in private laboratories and one at Desert Medicine Research Centre, Jodhpur have swine flu test facilities.The decision has been taken to strengthen early diagnosis facilities of swine flu for timely treatment of patients..
