Former Kota UIT chairman arrested in bribery case

Kota: ACB on Friday arrested Kota’s ex-UIT chairman R K Mehta for alleged abetment to bribery, giving profit to wrong person by misusing his powers as the chairman of the institute and accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. Mehta was on Saturday produced in the ACB court in Kota that ordered to send him to ACB remand till February 19. Misusing the power of his office, he gave profit to the wrong person in an unfair manner, the DSP added.He accepted a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in the deal of Rs 20 lakh, said DSP, ACB, Bundi.The accused was produced before the ACB court in Kota on Saturday that ordered to send him to ACB remand till February 19, he added. Mehta was detained from his home in Talwandi area of Kota city on Friday for interrogation after his name surfaced in a case lodged in July 2018 under sections 8,9, 10, 12, 13 [1][D] of PC Act 1988 Act and 120 B of IPC, Tarunkant Somani, DSP, ACB, Bundi, said.Following interrogation, he was arrested on Friday evening, he added.Two other accused – Mahesh Kumar Meghani and Kanwaljeet Singh, had been arrested in this connection earlier and are now out on bail, he said.During the investigation of the case, Mehta’s role surfaced in the transcripts of mobile recording and he was found to have negotiated an unfair deal of Rs 20 lakh out of which he accepted Rs 5 lakh.In a land-related matter, Mehta, as UIT chairman, played the role of a mediator in abetment to bribery of Rs 20 lakh..
