Caste groups lock horns over cremation of body

The community reached the cremation ground for last rites when members of Ravana Rajput community started protesting and asked them to take the body back. On Saturday morning, in Didania village, Hansraj Tak, from the Mali caste, died after illness. The body was then cremated in presence of police and administration. Jaisalmer: A dead body was not allowed to be cremated at Didania gram Panchayat in Pokhran of Jaisalmer district on Saturday, by members of Ravana Rajput community, as the deceased belonged to some other caste.The body could be cremated only after persuasion by the police. The dispute went on for quite some time and Mali community sat there with the body for 3-4 hours, and later informed police and administration.Police intervened and matter was solved when it was informed that the land has been allotted to Mali caste..
