Steep rise in Diwali pollution in commercial areas this year

Summary:

While on Diwali, the commercial areas recorded a seven-point rise in pollution, whereas six-point rise in pollution from pre to post Diwali was recorded in residential areas. In sensitive areas, there was a five-point rise in pollution level compared to pre-Diwali noise pollution level. The noise pollution level in residential, commercial and sensitive areas before Diwali was 57 Leq db (A), 63 Leq db (A) and 49 Leq db (A) m, respectively. However, those recoded in corresponding areas during Diwali were recorded at 63 Leq db (A), 70 Leq db (A) and 54 Leq db (A), respectively. While the average level of pre-Diwali pollution in the district (recorded on October 12, 2017) were 56 Leq db (A), the noise pollution recorded on Diwali was 62.3 Leq db (A)..
