Two dead, over 40 injured in road mishap

JAMMU: Two persons were killed and over 40 others injured when a passenger bus they were travelling in met with an accident on the Ramnagar-Udhampur road in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.The bus skidded off the road and fell into a riverulet in Ramnagar area, police sources said.They said that two persons died on the spot while 40 suffered injuries. Udhampur DC Ravinder Kumar and SSP Rajiv Pandey immediately rushed to the spot and supervised the whole rescue and evacuation operation.Sharing details of the mishap, Udhampur SSP Rajiv Pandey said, "On getting information about the accident, which took place at around 2.15 pm, police reached there without delay and started massive rescue operation. "The deceased were identified as Haroon, son of Nazir of Khooh Nalluh, and Krihsan Lal, s/o Sandokho Ram of Marta of Udhampur," he said.In a similar road tragedy last month, seven people, including three minors, were killed and three others were injured when a car they were travelling in met with an accident in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on December 14.Prior to this, in a fatal road accident, 13 passengers were killed and 13 others were injured when a bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Poonch district on December 8..
