Kolhan university's bus services for girls fail to take off

"Jha said KU's plan to introduce bus service is in conjunction with the project envisaged by the state government to ensure the girls living in rural and semi-rural areas come to college regularly and continue their studies. The university also plans to introduce the bus service at Cooperative College Jamshedpur.According to varsity officials, a sizeable chunk of the girl students come from distant locations like Chandil, Sonua, Manoharpur, Chakradharpur, Jaudguda among other places. The tender has now been modified and shall be re-floated soon. "Jamshedpur Women's College and Graduate School College for Women is the first preference of the girl students for admission, hence, several girls travel to the Steel City on local trains and buses from adjoining towns every day," said an official at the admission department of the varsity.The girl students constitute 57.09% of around 69,000 students who study at different colleges of Kolhan university. "After a section of the bus owners raised objections to some of the points in the tender we sent to the government for modification and now the amended tender is about to be floated," the varsity spokesperson said.He said the university requires at least 17 buses which would operate in Jamshedpur, Ghatshila, Seraikela, Chaibasa and Chakradharpur areas to ferry college students to and from the advantage points.The varsity requires bus service for the five girls' colleges - Graduate School College for Women , Jamshedpur Women's College (both in Steel City), Mahila College (Chaibasa), Model Mahila College ( Kharsawan ), BDS Mahila College (Ghatshila)..
