Horse cart rally in Steel City to protest against fuel prices

JAMSHEDPUR: With increasing prices of fuel apparently going beyond the reach of common people, a group of protesters on Wednesday took out a rally from Sakchi to the deputy commissioner's office - a distance of 2km - on horse-driven carts to call out the Centre's indifference to the soaring prices. "Our immediate demand from the government is to roll back the 'market driven price regulation system' as it has given total control rights of determining the price of the fuel to the companies," said Satnam Singh Gambhir , a senior functionary of All India Sikh Students Federation ( AISSF ), the outfit that organised the rally.Casting aspersions on the motive of the government behind its move to hand over the price determination rights to the petroleum companies in May last year, Charanjeet Singh Sidhu , another AISSF member, said, "Had the Centre been sincere then it would have asked the companies to pass on the relief to the consumers when the fuel prices were substantially low in the international market a couple of quarters ago..
