Marwar Rajmata Krishna Kumari passes away at 92

JODHPUR: The Rajmata of former Marwar principality and former MP, Krishna Kumari (92) passed away here late Monday night.She had been admitted to a private hospital after she suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday. She breathed her last around 1.00am in the night.A representative of the royal family, Rajendra Singh said that the cremation will take place at Jaswant Thada at 4 pm on Tuesday. She is survived by two daughters Chandresh Kumari (ex-MP Jodhpur) and Shailesh Kumari and a son Gaj Singh, the erstwhile ruler of Marwar and Ex Rajya Sabha MP.According to doctors at the hospital, her condition was showing signs of improvement but she had another cardiac arrest on Monday night that proved fatal. Before this, her body will be placed at Ummed Palace for the public to pay tributes to their Rajmata.Chief minister Vasundhara Raje and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot expressed grief at the demise of the former Rajmata.Born in 1926, Krishna Kumari, princess of Dharangdhra in Gujrat had married the then ruler of Marwar Hanwant Singh in 1943.After death of Hanwant Singh in a plane crash in 1952, when he was campaigning for the Independent India's first general elections, Krishna Kumari single handedly managed the family and other responsibilities.Carrying forward the dream of her husband, she fought the election and won to serve the people of Jodhpur.She pioneered combating the practice of veils among women and also championed the cause of girl education..
