Municipal commissioner told to move two garbage sites in Kanpur

Municipal commissioner Santosh Kumar Sharma had given an undertaking to make necessary arrangement for removing garbage from the two sites. He had assured that 50% of the primary dumping sites would be closed within to months while 183 secondary dumping sites to be shut later.He, however, expressed his doubts regading completion of the aforesaid tasks within stipulated time because of financial crunch. The committee also discussed the primary dumping site situated at Bhauti which is in the catchment area of Pandu river. Justice Singh, who had visited Kanpur few days ago with retired judge Rajendra Singh judge, said that he has received the report regarding dumping of garbage on roadsides in the city. The Central Pollution Control Board had informed that latchet of this dumping site ultimately meets river Pandu, but in rainy season it flows s to Ganga.As the dumping site also pollutes air, therefore, it would be appropriate that the primary dumping site is shifted at some distance from the river bed..
