Safirulla on Friday led a squad of the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in conducting a lightning inspection of autorickshaws following passenger complaints and took action against 39 drivers for various offences. Four each were booked for operating without fare meters and without insurance while another was booked for drunk driving. The MVD team was led by Enforcement RTO K.

Shaji and included Motor Vehicles Inspectors Biju Isaac, Naufal, Manoj Kumar and Eldho Varghese, among others. A statement from the District Collector said that they had seized 27 autorickshaws. The exercise, lasting over four hours, was carried out from 7 p.m.
