THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/ KOCHI: The Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE) on Tuesday asked principals of all self-financing medical colleges not to insist on bank guarantees from students seeking MBBS admissions in self-financing medical colleges. “Both the 2nd and 3rd respondents (commissioner of entrance examinations and admission supervisory committee) shall be at liberty to issue orders in this regard, to be applicable generally to all similarly situated students and colleges,” it said. A CEE order in this regard said that its decision was based on the high court verdicts issued on Monday and Tuesday.The high court had earlier on Tuesday said that the CEE and the admission supervisory committee can take action to ensure that admissions are provided without furnishing bank guarantees.The order was issued by a division bench comprising Justice K Surendra Mohan and Justice Shircy V after considering a petition filed by 11 students through advocate Raajesh S Subrahmanian.It was pointed out to the division bench that Travancore Medical College at Kollam has declined to extend the benefit of the court’s recent order, to not insist for bank guarantee, to all students and has taken a stand that it was applicable only to those petitioners who approached the court.Through the interim order, the court said that the Travancore Medical College principal’s stand is unjustified and cannot be countenanced..
