Kerala floods: SpiceJet to operate 76 additional flights

CHENNAI: SpiceJet will operate additional 76 flights to help passengers affected by floods in Kerala after Kochi airport was closed.From August 17, the airline will operate new and additional direct flights on Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru-Kozhikode, Male-Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru-Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode-Chennai and Dubai-Kozhikode routes. SpiceJet will deploy a mix of both Boeing 737 and Q400 on these routes.The new flights are expected to lend a strong hand to the rescue operations that are currently on after the Kerala deluge -- termed as ‘one of the worst in decades’ -- left thousands stranded.The airline is offering passengers who booked tickets in flights to and from Kochi a full refund on cancellations, waiver of change fees and fare difference for the same sector and for booking an alternate flight for the next 10 days from the date of travel.Passengers have also been offered the option to take flights out of Coimbatore, Madurai, Tuticorin, Calicut and Thiruvananthapuram.Bookings of tickets are open on www.spicejet.com, the airline’s mobile apps, online travel portals and through travel agents..
