Two leptospirosis cases confirmed in district

KOCHI: Two confirmed leptospirosis cases have been reported from Rayamangalam and North Paravur in the district on Friday.The district administration also informed that eight suspected cases were reported from Chendamangalam , Angamaly, Sreemolanagaram, Kalady , Ramamangalam, Karamalur, Aluva and Palluruthy.Just before the floods, leptospirosis cases were on a rise. Moreover, 118 people have sought treatment for diarrhoea.Immediately after the deluge, the health department had issued an alert over the ‘sudden increase’ of leptospirosis cases. However, the health department has intensified screening as they have expected an increase in the number of cases post flood.Additional district medical officer, S Sridevi, said that suspected cases of leptospirosis have been reported from areas that have not been affected by floods. Two suspected case each have been reported from Vengola and three suspected cases have been reported from Vazhakkulam.In the district, 640 patients have sought treatments in the outpatient and inpatient categories. Three cases of dengue have been confirmed, and patients are from Choornikkara, Vengola and Kadugallur..
