KOCHI: Cochin Cancer Research Centre ( CCRC ) is mooting a proposal to start manufacturing artificial breasts as part of an initiative to rehabilitate and provide employment to cancer survivors and family members of those who succumbed to the disease.“As of now, around 12,000 artificial breasts are required in the state. We plan to train cancer survivors and employ them, who would train others,” Balagopal said.“Training can be given in tailoring, manufacturing of artificial breasts, vaginal dilators, colostomy bags etc,” said Balagopal. The plan is to impart training to 60 cancer survivors or family members of those died of the disease every year. We hope to give it to the patients at a much cheaper price,” said CCRC superintendent Dr P G Balagopal.As per the estimate, 4,000 breasts can be manufactured in the centre a year..
