Summary:

"Though we had selected eight people for providing training for operating the vessels, training could be given only to three people as the vessel has now been deployed for service. Sethu Sagar-2 is operated by an amateur operator on the guidance of a person with the expertise," said KSINC official. "When the vessel, Sethu Sagar-2, had developed technical snags during the initial phase of its deployment in June, authorities had promised that things would be rectified and both the vessels would operate simultaneously in 10 days. "Though the vessel will be available in the morning hours for training, we can provide training only if we get directives from higher officials," added the operator.Meanwhile, KSINC officials said that the time of the operation of Sethu Sagar-1 will be increased as new operators will get more expertise in the field. But for the last six months, there was only the service of just one vessel Sethu Sagar-1," said FVJK chairman Majnu Komath.Members of the association had conducted a protest regarding the issue on Saturday morning in front of Kochi corporation office.Though Sethu Sagar-1 will be free without any operation till 2pm daily, officials have not planned to conduct training for selected people during that time.According to helmsmen of the vessel, authorities have given instructions to operate the vessel from 2pm to 8pm..
