KOCHI: Expressing solidarity with the ‘Save Alappad, Stop Mining’ campaign , ‘trollers’ of a Facebook group gathered at Marine Drive in Kochi on Sunday.About hundreds of youngsters took part in the gathering, organized by Facebook page titled ‘Troll Ernakulam’.“The protest by residents of Alappad against mineral sand mining, which had been continuing for the past 20 years, could not be brought to the limelight all these years. It is because of the intervention of social media users, the issue is now in the limelight,” said activist C R Neelakandan while talking to the gathering.Social media users and troll pages have an important role in this, he said.Neelakandan also added that it was heartening to see youngsters coming forward to involve in such issues.“The biggest success of the campaign was that social media could make the government ready for a discussion regarding this with the protesting people of Alappad,” he added.“We did not start the campaign by just seeing the videos shared by people there..
