Probe burning of plastic waste at Palluruthy: KWC

KOCHI: Kerala Women's Commission (KWC) chairperson M C Josephine has directed police to conduct an inquiry into a plastic waste burning incident at Palluruthy on a complaint filed by an elderly woman and her daughter at the KWC adalat held here on Friday.The mother-daughter duo, both suffering from chronic bronchitis , sought action against a neighbour who allegedly burnt waste near the compound wall of their house. The adalat will continue on Saturday and is expected to hear 42 cases. He reached after the adalat. But the commission members said that the complaint would be examined and if found serious, it would be considered to find an amicable solution.Of the 83 cases that came up for hearing, 22 cases were resolved, report was sought in 11 cases and three cases were referred for counselling. The duo had registered a police complaint, but no action was taken.In another case, a spinster in her seventies approached the commission against her sister's son and family for mistreating her and demanding Rs 10 lakh or her property.The commission members intervened and with the woman's consent, it was decided that her residential property would be given to her sister's son after her demise and till then he should take care of the woman.A father of two daughters had come all the way from Palakkad to approach the commission seeking a solution to the dispute with his wife whom he alleges to have an illicit affair..
